NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY. JUST CALL IN AT SCRUFFS (LOCATED WITH PARKING BEHIND AUCHENCAIRN STORE). Aims and Objectives Scruffs Registered Childcare is situated in the heart of Auchencairn Village. All staff at Scruffs are working parents and fully aware of the value of the right childcare facility for your child. Scruffs offers a safe stimulating environment in which you can be assured your child will enjoy and develop. Scruffs believes in the equality of both sexes and the toys your children play with reflect this. Educational toys and games are provided with a great number of books for them to browse at their leisure. Children are encouraged to become involved in Art, Crafts, Cookery, Gardening, and musical activities, In addition to this local playgroups will be attended and other childminders will be visited to encourage confidence and independence. We would also like your child to be involved in the community projects such as Art shows, Flower Shows, Summer Gala's and fetes. Community projects give the children the opportunity to become an active citizen. When weather permits we will be out and about to explore the sea side, woodlands and parks to encourage and stimulate their understanding and develop imagination. In short Scruffs offers your child the same stimulation and enjoyment that you would offer yourself – a warm and consistent quality of care.

If your child is ill
It is important for your child that when they are ill they receive individual care and attention. It is a requirement of registered childcare facilities that we do not care for children who are ill. This is to ensure that the children who are unwell or suffering from infection do not pass on any infection to the other children. Scruffs therefore asks for your co operation in keeping your child at home if they are suffering with /from any of the following conditions 1. Diarrhoea and/or vomiting 2. High Temperature 3. Childhood ailments e.g. Measles, whooping cough, chicken pox, mumps, German measles or Conjunctivitis. If there are other conditions causing your child to feel unwell it is best to keep him/her at home. Settling in procedure Settling in can be a upsetting period for both parents and children so Scruffs hopes to make the transition as easy as possible. We will achieve this by meeting both you and other members of your family that will be involved in your child’s care prior to leaving your child for any length of time. We will need to discuss your child’s likes/dislikes e.g. does your child have a special toy/ dummy comforter. At first it is advised to leave your child for a short time just so that they know that you will return. As we know how much you may feel the need to check all is well, Scruffs is open to you at all times to you phoning or calling in. We really do not mind please do ask questions if you wish. If you would like Scruffs to take your child to their local playgroup then this can be arranged. Each child or young person will always receive a warm welcome every time they visit Scruffs. This is to ensure that everyone is happy and ready for the day. Please let us know if you feel that your child is not happy that day for any reason e.g., tired, upset, having a full picture as possible is helpful when supporting all children through changes in their lives this means we all need to work collectively and share important information. All information between Scruffs and you is confidential. Scruffs offers a warm and consistent quality of care and would want to share knowledge and experience being open and honest with you at all times. Feedback is important to Scruffs as we can use the information you share with us to make improvements to the service we offer. You will be required to fill a questionnaire regarding our service every six months.

The following are extracts from the 2008 report on the inspection of Scruffs carried out by Angela Bradford, Care Commission Officer on 27 February 2008.
Mlchelle Tranmore and Lisa Perry alias, Scruffs Childminding Service was registered with the Care Commission on 1 April 2002. Scruff's can provide a care service to a maximum of 12 children at anyone time under the age of 16, of whom no more than 8 are not yet attending primary school and of whom no more than 2 are under 12 months. Numbers are inclusive of children of the child minder's families.
Where Janice Anderson is employed as an assistant the following conditions will apply; When an assistant is working for Scruffs, the care service will be provided to a maximum of 12 children at anyone time under the age of 16, of whom no more than B are not yet attending primary school and of whom no more than 2 are under 12 months. Numbers are inclusive of children of the childminder's families. The parts of the premises which are not to be used for child minding purposes are the upstairs bedrooms. It has been agreed that there will be no overnight service accommodated in the child minding premises. Scruffs' statement of aims and objectives informs that "children will be cared for in a happy and safe environment". The children being cared for at the time of the inspection were happy, relaxed and well stimulated with the available resources being offered, They had opportunity to choose from outdoor or indoor play. Staff interacted well with the children and responsive to requests and suggestions made by the children. Seven out of twelve parental questionnaires were returned prior to the inspection. These indicated that 6 'parents were "very happy" and 1 "happy" with the service being provided. Comments received from parents on whether they thought Scruffs child minding service was meeting the six National Care Standards principles: Dignity, Privacy, Choice, Safety, Realising potential and Equality and Diversity reflected a strong agreement that the service offered excellent care. Comments from parents included "My child's needs are always met. Scruffs gives a wonderful service. My child is made to feel part of the family. We could not wish for a better service from scruffs".
