Read on: Auchencairn History Society was formed in order to provide an organisation to collect and keep available the increasing amount of historical information and records of the village. These include Census records, cemetary memorial inscriptions, the school roll records, early maps, a photographic library and accounts by local residents of life at different times in the village. The Society also holds a library of published work relating to different activities in and around the village and copies of unpublished local histories. The most comprehensive and up to date account, written by Mr Hugh Paton can be found HERE The Society meets quarterly and arranges field trips to sites of historic interest in the area. The earliest artefact found in the village is a Stone Age axe head dated approx. 4500B.C. now in Dumfries museum and the Society holds records of the events which took place at the Millenium for the future. The Society is not limited to any historical period or subject. The Society expects, with the help of others, to continue to build up a valuable resource of records for the use of all, to undertake historical research within the area and to arrange periodic lectures on subjects of interest. 2010/2011 Office Holders President/Secretary: Marion Makins, Mahwood, Shore Road 01556 640307
