Auchencairn is a traditional Scottish village consisting mainly of stone houses dating from the early 17th century. It is located on the heritage coastline of the Solway Estuary, an area of unspoiled hills, cliffs, islands, bays and beaches known locally as the Scottish Riviera.

Often overlooked by visitors to Scotland in favour of the Highlands and Islands, the area has been described as 'Scotland in miniature' and has a great deal to offer walkers, cyclists, wildlife enthusiasts or those who just want to relax on a beach.
Auchencairn enjoys a particularly mild climate due to its coastal position and there is a lively and welcoming community that takes pride in the appearance and history of the village. Several craft and specialist businesses operate successfully here although it is predominantly a farming community. First mentioned by name in 1305, as part of the lands of Dundrennan Abbey there is evidence that the area has been occupied for many millennia. A detailed account of the History of The Village has been included on this website. The village attained notoriety for the scale of smuggling in the days of Robert Burns, but is now more law abiding and offers a wide range of excellent accommodation and facilities for visitors together with a very warm welcome.
We'd love you to sign our guestbook and let us know what you thought of our village, website or Scotland in general!

Organised by Auchencairn and Rerrick Church Guild this annual event takes place on Wednesday 16th July over an extended lunch period from 12.00 noon to 2.00pm to allow time and space for as many people to attend the event in The Murray Hall, as is possible. For a cost of £4.00 per head (£2.00 under age 12 years) which is donated to the church funds, everyone is provided with an excellent meal. It is a very good opportunity to meet people and chatter. Visitors to the area are most welcome. Tickets are available from Guild Members or from Auchencairn Store.
Book early and avoid disappointment - the tickets are always in great demand. Click image below for published advertisement |

Our summer outing to The Rheged Centre, Penrith is on Thursday 31st July 08.
Non-Members have the opportunity to join us at a cost of £10.00 each (no concessions) towards travel. Our bus is likely to leave Auchencairn at about 9am and return about 6pm. Pick ups en route may be arranged. Those attending will have to provide or purchase their own refreshments and bear the cost for any other activity that they chose to undertake on the day. There are at least 12 shops and 3 different style cafes on the site. There is a giant screen cinema that shows a different film every hour (£3.95 for seniors for 1 film and another £2.50 for subsequent – others £1.00 extra for each). A very successful (and free entry) exhibition about Cumbria has been extended through this year. The advertising blurb certainly indicates that there is something of interest to suit most people and ages. Details have still to be finalised but Non-Members interested in attending the Thursday Club outing should please contact me in the first instance as soon a possible in order to secure a place.
