Screel House now offering quality bed and breakfast accommodation.

Screel House dates back to 1790, and has been gradually extended over the years. It stands in quiet position within 2 acres of open gardens looking over fields.
Orchardton Bay can usually be seen at high water.

Jane and Guy Pounder have lived here since 1999 and thoroughly enjoy welcoming visitors into their family home.

In the early part of the year, the garden produces an array of spring flowers, and the woods behind the house are a carpet of bluebells. The summer produces other foliage and there is an abundance of orchard fruit and soft fruit.

The region boasts beautiful beach and hill walking (Rascarrel, Screel and Bengairn http://walking.visitscotland.com/walks/southscotland/), bird hides for twitchers, and mountain biking in Dalbeattie forest(www.7stanes.gov.uk). For the less energetic Castle Douglas has some fine shops and historic Threave Castle is worth a visit on its island in the middle of the River Dee and includes a short boat trip.Location
Screel House is on the A711 between Dalbeattie and Kirkcudbright and about two miles North of the village of Auchencairn. The house can be seen from the road as you drive along, the farm is marked by two traingular roadsigns, a horse and a cow, and the driveway is marked by a “heifer” sign and is shared with Screel Farm.

Drive up through stone gate posts facing you as you turn up the drive. There is ample parking. The house is marked on the Ordnance Survey map. Check out the local scenery here in the website Gallery.
