INTRODUCTION

The Bowling Club is situated on the outskirts of the village of Auchencairn in the South West of Scotland. It is located on the Balcary Bay road and looks across to Heston Island. There are at present around 50 members. The club is also quite unique, as all the members are non-smokers.

CLUB HISTORY

The club dates back to 1875 and has produced many talented bowlers over the years. Some have moved to other clubs and continue to do well. 1980-1985 saw a total refurbishment of the clubhouse, playing surface and surroundings. In 1999 the clubhouse had electricity installed. There is only one club member, who lives in the village, while the other members come from the surrounding towns and villages. Club nights are Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Monday and Thursday are League nights when points are played for and a sweep (a small amount of money given to the winner). Saturday evening games are played for fun and a sweep. All visitors are welcome and can come and play for a small fee of £2.00 per person. Family or groups can negotiate daily and weekly rates. Anyone who wishes to join the club will be made welcome. We are always looking for new members.

The Future

Further improvements are planned subject to funding. The club is always trying to improve the facilities and equipment but this is only a small club and it has always had to raise its finances through Tournaments, Raffles and Membership Fees. Any Donations or Sponsorship from local Businesses is always welcome and appreciated.
