It is with sadness that the death of Cynthia Mitchell, Glencairn, Bakery Street is announced. English by birth and still retaining her southern accent, Cynthia had actually lived in Auchencairn for some 70 years, the longest time of any current residents. She died in Dumfries Hospital on Friday morning after a thankfully brief illness and just a few days before her 88th birthday. The funeral will take place at 11am on Saturday 9th July at Auchencairn Parish Church....

George Brockbank, Forest Project Leader and a Director of Auchencairn Initiative has announced that the application to be considered to purchase the Rascarrell Moss Forest from the Forestry Commission as a community asset has gained the approval of the Forestry Commisions Evaluation Panel. It now passes for final consideration by the Director of Forestry.

RASCARREL POLL YES VOTE

Votes were counted on Monday night to see if the villagers of Auchencairn wished the Community Council and Initiative to proceed with an application to purchase Rascarrel Moss wood under the National Forest Land Scheme. The 400 acre forest has been offered to the community by the Forestry Commission on condition that community support is shown. In the event over 78% of those eligible voted with 66% of those voting yes. The vote count was overseen and scrutinised by Gordon Kinghorn and Marie Jacks...
