The nearest train station to Auchencairn is in Dumfries - about twenty miles away, which runs fairly regular connections to the main line in Carlisle.

Without a car or bicycle the only other option is the local bus.

The direct service to Dumfries is sparse and most trips require a change in Dalbeattie or Castle Douglas. Leaves Auchencairn 09.19am Tuesday and Friday only and returns at 2.54pm having left Dumfries at 2.03pm.
